Tamworth Camping Area welcomes you and your family to the best in
New Hampshire camping. We have what it takes to make the perfect
camping vacation, providing your ticket to all of the famous
attractions of both the Lakes and White Mountains regions, but also
with oh-so-much to do right here at the campground! For starters,
how about swimming, fishing or tubing? These only begin to cover the
endless recreational opportunities which abound at the campground. A
full schedule of organized weekend activities is also available
throughout the season, including dances, pot luck suppers, pancake
breakfasts and professional entertainment. And don’t forget to visit
our barnyard animals … a must see for all ages!

We begin our season with the New Hampshire Inter-tribal Native
American Powwow in May, and, in October, end with central access to
two of the best county fairs in the region.

Heifer Project
International |
|
Each year
we conduct activities on Labor Day Weekend at Tamworth
Camping Area to raise money for Heifer Project
International. Heifer Project International has been
feeding the hungry in the USA and around the world since
1944, helping more than 4 million impoverished families
in approximately 110 countries and 35 states become more
self-reliant through the gift of livestock and training
in their care. Their rule is that each family who
receives an animal must give away the first born to
another needy family willing to learn to feed
themselves. A non-profit organization, rooted in the
Christian tradition, HPI joins with people of faith
everywhere to work for the dignity and well-being of all
people. HPI provides 24 types of food and income
producing animals, as well as intensive training in
animal husbandry, environmentally sound, sustainable
farming practices and community development. Heifer
Project International is a member of InterAction and of
International Service Agencies (#0315). For more
information, visit Heifer Project International online
at http://www.heifer.org
or call 1 800 422-0474. Tamworth Camping Area has been
supporting HPI for 20 years through our activities and
hope you will join us in this effort. Immediate funds
are needed at
Overlook Farm due to a recent fire in their main
animal barn where they lost 70 animals. Please send
donations to: Heifer International, Overlook Farm, 216
Wachusett Street, Rutland, MA 01543.

The mission of Heifer Project is “to eliminate hunger
and poverty through sustainable agriculture.”
Contributions to HPI support education and gifts of
livestock to poor families in this country and around
the world. With Boston skyscrapers profiled on the far
horizon, Heifer Project’s vision of a better world is
lived daily on a 270 acre hilltop farm in Rutland,
Massachusetts. Overlook Farm supports the mission of
Heifer Project International by educating visitors about
HPI’s message to eliminate hunger and poverty through
sustainable agriculture. Programs revolve around an
integrated land and livestock production system which
uses techniques and resources similar to those available
to U.S. families who receive assistance from HPI. Since
Overlook is a working farm which markets products from
its integrated woodlands, organic garden, and more than
a dozen livestock enterprises, visitors can see for
themselves how the HPI model works.

Visitors to Overlook
Farm experience a special one acre plot that shows
subsistence-level agricultural practices of farmers in
other countries. They can spend time at a Central
American-type farm or visit a Tibetan yurt, (a yak hair
tent). Visitors can even arrange for a “Habitat Farm
Hunger Seminar” that includes cooking a meal common to
the world’s poor. Overlook Farm provides visitors the
opportunity to assist in meeting HPI’s vision of a
better world through hands-on suport. Overlook receives
the assistance of several full-time and more than 100
local part-time volunteers. Work groups from colleges,
churches and civic organizations come to learn and lend
a hand throughout the year. Overlook also provides a
place for recreation and relaxation. Visitors can
picnic, hike the woodland trail or shop at the gift
shop. Overlook invites you to take a tour, bring a work
group, attend a special event or become a volunteer.

Overlook Farm is
located 10 miles northwest of Worcester. From the
intersection of Routes 122A and 68 in Holden, go North
2.5 miles. At the blinking light, take a right onto
Wachusett Street. Overlook Farm is ½ mile on the right.
From Route 2 in Gardner, follow Route 68 South for 14
miles and at the blinking light take a left onto
Wachusett Street. Overlook Farm is ½ mile on the right.
Hours are Monday-Saturday: 8:30AM-4:30PM; Sunday:
Noon-4:30PM. For information, call (508) 886-2221. |

Heifer
International 2006 Funds Buy Goat, Llama and Water
Buffalo |
|
Thanks to
all those “bikers” who ate pancakes and to Diane for her
various craft and game activities, we raised $260.00 for
Heifer International which we were able to match for a
total Tamworth Camping Area 2006 contribution of
$520.00. This amount of money bought a water buffalo
(the source of real mozzarella cheese) a llama (just
like our Mr. Wilson) and a goat (not our Georgie!), all
of which will provide food, fiber and future income for
many families in need of a way to sustain their lives.

Thanks so much for
your help. Please join us again this year for more
pancakes and fun events for Heifer International! |

Farm Report 2008 |
|
If you
have never tasted farm fresh eggs, you are in for a
treat! We sell eggs from our chickens in our camping
area country store, along with yarn spun from wool shorn
from our sheep. In the Fall of 2006, we were able to
make some long planned renovations to our animal barn
which includes separate stalls for our horse, Molly, and
for some of our older goats and sheep who can’t chew hay
as well as they used to. They may be “bumped” from these
stalls during lambing so the baby lambs will be
sheltered from too many hooves! We currently feed 20
plus animals twice a day, and that’s before any new
babies are born! |
